Topic: Adam Sharp's video in RFT Blog

Hey Occupiers -

RFT has posted a blog with 3 of Adam Sharp's videos from this weekend.

Hopefully, Occupy St Louis can address both the homophobic language used by one of us, and the ridiculous editing used by Sharp.

I will make a proposal at the next General Assembly I attend that Occupy ST denounces all pejoratives - racist, sexist, heterosexist, etc.  And, when one individual occupier uses words like that, that individual does not speak for the movement.

If someone wants to make that proposal sooner.  (Like tonight.) It would be great to be able to post a comment on the RFT site to that effect.

Thanks,

Steve

Re: Adam Sharp's video in RFT Blog

The best way to address this guy is to smile and wave and not say a thing.  If he gets no direct conversations he can't easily splice much together.  RFT was nice to show a shot of his profile, keep an eye out for him.

Also, if you do decide to go to his blog and post up, be polite.  Heck, even be friendly.  My personal experience with folks like this is that they THRIVE on conflict and have no idea how to deal with folks being nice to them when they are hurling invectives and vitriol.

This dude...What can we even say about him? Just wow. I didn't even realize there were people that acted like that. He is just trying to divide us.

Re: Adam Sharp's video in RFT Blog

hes just an IRL troll. Dont feed him with any form of footage he will use for his spin.

Re: Adam Sharp's video in RFT Blog

Best way to deal with this guy, is to state that you do not wish to be filmed, turn your back, and ignore his provocations.

Re: Adam Sharp's video in RFT Blog

He has a legal right to film anything happening in a public park. It is the same law that allows us to film the police.  Telling him you do not wish to be filmed does not give you any additional rights.  Also, the reality is someone with the Occupy movement called him the f-word.  As a community, we need to address that.  If not in an external statement, then with some internal dialogue on oppression and heterosexual privilege.

Check out the statement from the General Assembly.  It takes awhile for things to move through the group, but it does happen!  Plus it needs to get approved by 2 GA's before it becomes official:

Loving the statement.

Re: Adam Sharp's video in RFT Blog

Just my opinion, but it sounded to me like Adam was the one who used the hate language.  I know that likely won't matter to those who watch the video & already are planning to be hateful to us.  For what it's worth - I think he made himself look like bad.
